Harvest: Sharing Your Gifts

“How wonderful that no one need wait a single moment to improve the world.”

~ Anne Frank

From a single seed can grow a tree that will bear fruit to nourish us year after year.  So too can the gifts one person bestows on the world – however small they may seem to that individual – nourish the souls of the people whose lives they touch, throughout their lifetime.

A friend of mine recently wrote and self-published a book.  It’s a small how-to volume filled with suggestions and advice based on the lessons he’s learned and the wisdom he’s acquired through the course of his own professional journey.  A couple of weeks ago he got a call from a stranger; a man who had read his book and was “blown away and inspired” by it.  This man has spent the last ten years of his life working 70-hours a week to support a family that he’s never had time to see enough of.  He said the book changed his life, and my friend was overjoyed to have helped this man on a path to prosperity and meaningful, lucrative work.

We all have gifts to share; something of value to offer those around us that may have the potential to be life-altering.  Often we may not even realize how much giving of ourselves can mean, and sometimes all it takes is for us to plant a seed that takes root in someone’s heart and grows.  There is no feeling in the world as wondrous as knowing that you’ve truly made a difference in someone’s life. But we have to plant those seeds, it is essential that we share our gifts.

What gifts do you have to give?  What difference will you make today?
