Love Makes a Bridge: Chords of Many Strands

The last verse of Love Makes a Bridge says:

Love makes a bridge that winds may shake yet not destroy.
Love carries faith through life and death to endless joy.*

If you’ve ever seen a suspension bridge you know that it is made by creating threads of tension that pull on braces to make the bridge bear any pressure or weight put on it. The chords are made up of many strands of wire, steel, or other strong cable that are wound and braided around each other over and over again so that the cable is just about unbreakable.

We are an interconnected web like the wires wound round and round and round themselves in a tension bridge. Black lives matter. Regardless of your citizenship status – chordsyou are welcome in our faith. We recognize the inherent worth and dignity of every living being. Really,  to be our strongest we just need to hang on to each other. I won’t let go of you and you won’t let go of me and as I pull you along and as you pull me along we share the tension and spread it out and we hold on and we travel together.

We make connections with each other all of the time. Sometimes it is those connections with each other that will pull us through the hardest times in our lives.

Take courage friends.
The way is often hard, the path is never clear,
and the stakes are very high.
Take courage.
For deep down, there is another truth;
You are Not alone
