The Garden: Impact

“This we know: All things are connected like the blood that unites us.
We did not weave the web of life, We are merely a strand in it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.”
-Chief Seattle

As we continue to examine our own place in The Garden, we have an opportunity to truly nurture our connection with all that surrounds us.  From the pets in our homes to the wildlife in our backyards, the lizards on our porches, and the insects in our gardens, we share a common interest in the health of the environment and of the earth.  What sets humanity apart from all of Earth’s other living species is our awareness of the fact that our actions and behavior have an impact.  How seriously we take our role as stewards of the earth makes a tremendous difference in the path we tread, and the future quality of life.

How we think matters because of its profound effect on how we speak and act. The myriad choices available to us every day – where and how we spend our money, what we choose to eat, whether our words are kind and compassionate, how we spend our time – are immensely powerful tools in the creation of our vision of an improved relationship with the earth and world community.  Whether on a minute or grand scale, our actions serve to manifest our reality.

What can we do to go beyond acknowledging the interdependent web of existence, even respecting it, to live into it?  The more alive the connection is within your consciousness, the greater your ability to effect change for the benefit of the planet and all of her inhabitants.  The more you are focused on acting from love, the deeper your impact will be.

What choices can you make today to foster love at the heart of every connection?  How does this affect your perspective and your behavior?  How will this impel you to be a catalyst for change?
