It was March of 2022. I was about to finish my one year of breast cancer treatment. I decided that I was going to give myself a gift. I wanted a little poochie.
I started to look on the Gwinnett animal shelter website. I was on that website every day. Then, one day I saw her. That face! Those beautiful butterfly ears! I wanted her.
My sister went with me to the animal shelter. At the animal shelter it’s first come first served. I knew it was going to be a long day. That didn’t matter to me.
We left the house at 6:30 am on that Wednesday in March. We first went to Chick-fil-A to get chicken biscuits and lemonade to enjoy while we waited at the animal shelter.
After two hours it opened and I went to the counter and gave them the pen number of the poochie. I was then told to come back at noon. We went home.
It was finally time to go back to the animal shelter. We were led to a big room with all the other people who wanted to adopt a dog or cat. We waited in that room for what seemed like eternity.
My name was finally called. We were then led to the little dog room. After a few minutes, the little poochie was brought in.
I saw her butterfly ears and her fountain tail just wiggling and I fell in love. It was love at first sight.
I went to fill out the paperwork and paid a whopping twenty-two dollars for her with the senior discount.
This is the wonderful day that Hunny was welcomed into our household and became a part of our family. She is always by my side. She always greets me when I come home. She is the best gift ever. I love my Hunny!!!

We feel the same way about our sweet Millie. That kind of love never dies….
OMG this reminds me of my Sateen and the home visitation – where I made sure my house was spick and span and then when the interviewer came she found the ONE potential problem area – a gap in my patio fence. I agreed to fix and Sateen became my sweetie pie. So many years ago and goodbyes have happened. Yet still the LOVE.
So glad you have your Hunny.
