Blessings: Evening Meditation

“So if you’re worried and you can’t sleep, just count your blessings instead of sheep.  And you’ll fall asleep counting your blessings.”

~ Lyric by Irving Berlin

Even in a world that seems consumed with strife, even in the midst of what appears uncertain and chaotic, blessings surround us everywhere.  Anything that reminds us of the beauty inherent in the experience of living is a blessing.  Any moment, any person, any sight or sound or feeling…

Some days may be more tiresome than others.  Some weeks may be more trying, and some moments may leave you in doubt of whether you will ever feel blessed again.  But I know that today there was at least one something.  Something brilliant and strong and glorious.

What are you grateful for?

As you lay your head on your pillow tonight, breathe deeply, close your eyes, and feel the breath as it enters your body, centering you and connecting you with the well of gratitude that lives within the loving presence at the core of your being…  Feel the breath as it leaves your body, releasing any tension, connecting you with the loving source that permeates all being, and allowing your thoughts to turn to all that is good in your life…

The water that flows freely from your faucets… the bird you heard singing this morning as the sun rose… the miracle that is the beating of your heart… The people whom you love and who love you…

What else…?

What other things inspire your soul to dance?  Dwell on these now as you await the onset of slumber, with a smile on your spirit and the knowledge that tomorrow will be yet another day of hidden blessings, waiting in the shadows to be discovered.  Sitting still and quiet, waiting to be found.
