Metamorphosis: Chrysalis

Caterpillars are shape shifters, and the chrysalis phase is when the “magic” happens.  It is one of those everyday miracles that occur all around us: somewhere in the midst of that darkness, a comparatively unremarkable creature that crawls becomes a magnificent creature that flies.

As human beings, our energies are bound to ebb and flow as we are faced with life’s many challenges.  Sometimes, when we feel as though we are in darkness we are merely in our own “chrysalis phase”.  There are certainly days when I feel as though I am dragging through life, unable to muster enthusiasm for events going on around me; feeling, perhaps, as though I have little to offer the world.  It’s easy to get impatient with myself during these periods, urging myself to snap out of it and get back into the rhythm of things.  So much to accomplish, and so little time…

But, if I pause long enough to consider it, I believe that during these times of reduced motivation and productivity, often the truth is that my energy is merely diverted to doing the work of the soul.  I would do well to remember that much of the time there is an invisible-yet-significant reason behind what seems like malaise.  There is transformation going on within.  There is growth in the works.  There is healing taking place.  And if I can just relax and let the process occur, instead of persistently urging myself onward, I give myself the gift of support for the conversion my being is ready to achieve.

Is it possible that, in an effort to keep pace with your hectic life, you are pushing yourself forward in denial of what your soul needs?  Patience with yourself is essential if you expect to achieve the whole benefit of the transformation.

You can’t rush the chrysalis phase.  Not if you expect to fly.

This is a good reminder for me to be merciful to myself when I am down or feeling bleak! For many of us depression is a familiar companion that if we feel we shouldn’t be feeling it, can truly crush us! Receiving love from our Beloveds and loving ourselves through it ensures the metamorphosis!

Wonderful quote at the end , “Can’t rush the chrysalis phase if you want to fly”. I need to remember that. The times are changing so fast. It is tough to let nature do it’s thing when
she is crippled by abuse. Yet she does supply us with some hidden answers,,,embedded in the force of nature. A dormant stage holds much future potential, lying within, waiting for the right time to flourish.
