The Land of My Ancestors

I love my genealogy and have done the ancestry dna test to see where my ancestors are from. The science behind it just fascinates me and I could talk forever on the subject.

I am definitively European with my majority of my ancestors from England and Northwestern Europe. 66% of my ancestors come from two small islands split into four different countries, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. The rest are from the other European countries, Including Norway, Denmark, Germany, Russia and Croatia.

This may not mean much to many but for me it means a lot. The Appalachian Mountains, the Scottish Highlands, The Ouachita Mountains and the Little Atlas of Morocco were all once the same mountain range. Long before our ancestors were even a part of earth these mountains connected the Central Pangean Mountains. Why does this matter? For me this bonds me to my ancestors. Although the mountain range split billions of years ago, before humans made their way out of the eternal waters of life.

My ancestors immigrated to the Americas, and settled in the mountains and valleys of the Appalachian Mountains. One location I’ve discovered is still named after my 11th great-grandfather, William Farrar, founded and settled Farrar’s Island, a peninsula on the west side of James River in Chesterfield County, Virginia,  There is so much rich history of the Farrar family that I get engulfed in and too much to share in this one reflection.

All this history of my ancestors brings me closer to the history of the lands. In my spiritual practices, this knowledge allows me to heal the wounds of my ancestors and build bridges to the ancestors of the land for the wrong they have done. I cannot change the past, but I can help spirits heal and I can nurture the lands of my ancestors.
