Wonder Lost and Wonder Found

When I was around 10 or 11 years old, December always brought a sense of wonder. A magical tree was lit, Christmas songs and carols played, gifts and decorations were displayed on the oriental rug in the living room, and I felt warm, safe, and excited! I also experienced religious wonder at the story of the Creator becoming a poor child who would “save the world”. I simultaneously felt wonder, longing, and warmth in a state of quiet ecstasy!

During Adolescence, when I finally understood the abusive and shaming theology of Original Sin, with its notion of the depravity of my inner nature, and the fear of everlasting torment, my well of wonder was poisoned! Rather than wonder, I became consumed by fear of displeasing the terrifying and judgmental Monster God!

Attending the Candler School of Theology helped me to understand Christianity more than I did as a child! I also became a part of a counterculture of sensuality and mysticism, music, sensual and spiritual joy and pleasure, and connecting with nature! Wonder was reborn in my life!

Since then practices like breathwork, sharing with others, yoga, guided imagery, psychotherapy, working on relationships, parenting, and other spiritual practices  have continued to connect me with spirits of Love and Wonder!

Holding gratitude for all who have helped and guided me on this journey!

You made a clear choice in navigating the path that has lead you far into your spiritual core. I recall a saying, (don’t know the author)
We are not humans having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.
