This is a song I wrote in college in 1982. Since then I’ve been married, worked for 38 years before retiring, and raised 3 children with my best friend in this world. We had no clue what we would become from then to now and we are NOT those same people anymore and that is a good thing for sure. We faced a lot of questions and uncertainty together as we decided who we would be in this world together. This song-story still to this day fills me with wonder, amazement and fear as I can say without a doubt…. I am no Mary. Not even in a story.
Mary had a little lamb
Whose heart was white as snow
and everywhere that Mary went the lamb was sure to go
They saw a star in the dark of night
And followed on into the light
But did they know . . . He would be king?
Gabriel came to Mary and told her she was blessed
the angels told the shepherds that babe was heaven sent
They saw that star in dark of night
And followed on into the light
Bud did they know . . angels would sing?
there was no room for Mary no solace on this Earth
that babe was born in solitude of poor and lowly birth…
Who’s to say that was the plan
To follow on to Bethlehem
Bud did they know . . . what stories it brings?
and so and so the story goes to all who would believe
that baby in that manger was born for you and me
Is that a star in dark of night
Who follows on into its light . . . ?
