I have several friends who attend traditional Protestant or Interdenominational Christian churches. For them, celebrating Christmas involves praising the birth of their Savior, Jesus Christ. They know I see Jesus differently, and I admit I am exploring my personal beliefs presently. I have fought the urge to try to bring them to “my side.”
After much reflection and consideration, I have realized that I do not need to “save” my friends from their way of faith, nor do they need to do so with me. There are similarities of beliefs and traditions that are dear to all of us. I realized this week that the most important thing to practice with friends and family this time of year, and always is love. That was Jesus’ greatest teaching, no matter how, or even if you believe in him.
